ACCORDING to the Cambridge dictionary, ‘holier-than-thou’ is an adjective that describes a person who acts as if they are morally superior, more virtuous, or more religious than everyone else.
People with this attitude act smug, judgmental and self-righteous, often looking down on others.
This was precisely the tone that Threader @damia.danielli was accused of having when she sanctimoniously voiced her disapproval at a fellow Muslim lady breastfeeding her child on the train.
For good measure, this irate poster even posted a video of the lady breastfeeding her child noting her puzzlement that the lady’s spouse did not deem fit to say anything.
“Instead, I was the one who got told off for his wife’s misdeed!” she remarked in amazement.
This lady on a high horse went on to declare quite smugly that she hoped that other women would feel shame after this.
The post has generated 3.9K Likes, 4.9K comments, 289 re-posts and 827 shares at time of writing with plenty of netizens pouring scorn on this busybody, not least her taking and posting images/videos on social media.
One disgusted commenter even went as far as to accuse the poster as uploading this as a means to attract eyeballs for her business content.
Indeed, this misstep in invading the other passenger’s privacy and posting her image online surely was definitely an invitation to courtroom drama.
Indeed, it would seem the aggrieved party was in the process of tracking down the identity of the poster with the aim of starting legal proceedings.
Many unimpressed commenters were quick to point out the poster’s hypocrisy. For instance, the mother was modestly dressed, wore a hijab and was covered while breastfeeding.
Compare and contrast with the poster’s avatar which had an image of a “sexy” woman sans tudung. One non-plussed female even dismissed this as “ragebait” by a “stupid woman who dressed like a wh*r*”.
This feminist called the poster out for having outmoded and outdated views. “Are you so sheltered that a woman breastfeeding a child offends you?” she asked in astonishment. “Nobody else is perturbed but you.”
It was hoped that the wrongly-viralled mummy lodges a police report against this poster who was labelled a “Jakun” (slang for uncivilised) and a “dungu” (foolish or stupid).
It was also pointed out that the mummy was properly covered when breastfeeding. Was it preferable for the baby to be crying throughout the whole journey?
Few things to note about this episode of supposed moral outrage. Firstly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what the mother did.
As pointed by many citizens, she was properly covered whilst feeding her child.
Secondly, so what? Why is it any concern as she was not in any way indecent? Nobody else seems perturbed. As quite rightly pointed out, it isn’t your child.
Last but not least, the gauntlet has been thrown down by the hubby of the breastfeeding mummy. He has demanded that the poster remove the post before he makes a police report.
As made abundantly clear by the many comments, this poster deserves to be slapped a summons for completely misreading the room. For now, she has heeded the husband’s wishes. –Aug 9, 2026
