Muted DAP admonished for yielding to Azam Baki’s clan, cronies reap lucrative Madani contracts

MADANI critics are fuming that Datuk Nasir Baki who once used the account of his former graft buster brother Tan Sri Azam Baki to buy stocks on Bursa Malaysia has been awarded a deemed lucrative RM178.29 mil contract by the Transport Ministry (MOT) in a so-called ‘hush-hush’ manner.

For context, MOT recently awarded a six-year to manage the Malaysia-Singapore Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and Road Charge system to Integriti Padu Sdn Bhd (IPSB) which according to The Edge is 34%-owned by Nasir who is the executive chairman and brother of Azam who stepped down as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head honcho on May 12.

As it is, critics have queried transparency of the contract given MOT has never made public the matter despite IPSB being awarded the contract on May 26 to develop, operate and maintain the VEP/Road Charge systems at the Malaysia-Singapore border.

The VEP is mandatory for all foreign-registered private vehicles entering Peninsular Malaysia. All foreign vehicles must register online through the Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit Portal to receive their non-transferrable VEP-RFID tag.

‘Madani mistrust’

In confirming that Nasir was Azam’s brother who used the latter’s stock trading account based on Azam’s own explanation in 2022, transparent governance advocate Datuk Dr Sivasampoh Kannikuddy was spot on in saying that “nobody should straight away accuse anyone of corrupt practice”.

“But the onus is on the government to disclose the tender process, number of bidders, evaluation scores and independent review mechanism,” opined the chartered accountant and transformational leader. “If you ask, the rakyat have the right to ask.”

Others are less forgiving with self-proclaimed truth seeker FreeMalaysian (@FreeMsian) berating the Madani government over its tendency of “getting things done through cronies”.

“What’s the need to grant the contract to Azam Baki’s brother when what they’re collecting is just a type of tax? Singapore could just collect VEP 10 times higher directly through their government agency, Land Transport Authority (LTA),” fumed the non-partisan netizen.

Delving further, FreeMalaysian further exposed that apart from the VEP project, Nasir had earlier secured another RM40.85 mil project “from the Fahmi Ministry (Communications Ministry under Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil) to broadcast RTM via the web”.

“What’s this nonsense? Just use YouTube and you don’t even have to pay,” he mocked before revealing yet another project from the Education Ministry (MOE).

The Edge also reported another project worth RM45 mil to Azam’s brother last year from the Fadhlina (Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek) Ministry. It seems that Adik Azam Baki is an ‘expert’ in all fields!”

Former MUDA information chief Luqman Long chastised the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) for “seeing this and still clueless why the voters no longer trust you”.

“Corporate mafia, Azam Baki, selective prosecution and DNAAs (discharge not amounting to acquittals) are happening right in front of our eyes under Madani.,” jibed the MUDA co-founder. “I bet they’re still clueless”.

Azam’s nemesis Datuk Albert Tei Jiann Cheing – the businessman at the centre of the high-profile Sabah mining license corruption case – sarcastically congratulated “Azam Baki’s family” while calling for prompt investigation on DAP secretary-general and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook over Nasir’s contract.

“Now we understand that DAP which has for tens of years played the opposition role by shouting the combating graft ideology has no qualms to indulge in corruption when given an opportunity to rule,” berated the now opposition-slant activist in his Reformati Studio “Albert Tei” Facebook Reel.

As if they’re mute and blind to the various wrongdoings of Azam Baki even when owning shares worth RM14 mil in a number of public listed companies and even colluding with the alleged corporate mafia to threaten and seize companies belonging to others.

“But till today, not even one DAP leader who is brave enough to come forward to dispute the RM178 mil award granted to Azam’s brother.

All DAP principles and ideology are just lies … kindly be aware and stop allowing yourself to be deceived by DAP anymore.

Interestingly, it has even been revealed that the Azam Baki influence on the Madani government is not limited to his brother but extended to his brother-in-law who is contesting under the PH ticket for the Ampangan seat in the Aug 1 Negeri Sembian state election. – July 20, 2026
