RELEVANT government bodies and the authorities should get their facts straight when announcing new terms to the current standard operating procedures and manage its enforcement better.
This includes the National Security Council (MKN), the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia (MoTAC) and all Enforcement Agencies including the Royal Malaysian Police and Local Authorities (PBT).
According to the Malaysia Budget & Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) chairman Ganesh Michiel, hotel operators are getting the brunt of it when they are asked to close the doors to their establishment, even when they have permission to operate from Miti and MoTAC.
“The message from the authorities must be delivered effectively as we have received very unsatisfactory feedback from hotel operators in the industry. There have been numerous reports of authorities who are ignorant of the SOPs are forcing them to close shop,” explained Ganesh.
“The last minute announcement of changing the ministry that grants the permission to operate has also been given a negative response. It has disrupted the smooth operation of the hotel industry and put pressure towards those involved in it,” he continued.
Ganesh also advised the government bodies and the authorities to take further measures in ensuring a smoother implementation and enforcement of the full movement control order (FMCO) in order to avoid any more confusion regarding the matter. – June 7, 2021
