MyCV apologises for SOP violation, says gathering was “spontaneous”

MYCREATIVE Ventures Sdn Bhd (MyCV) has extended an apology for the violation of COVID-19 standard operation procedure (SOP) that had occurred when a group of visitors had showed up unexpectedly during the “RIUH EK!” programme in Ayer Hitam, Johor on Sunday (March 6).

The incident which saw a large crowd moshing to rock music without social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic has caught the attention of the police who have initiated an investigation.

“MyCV as an agency of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry which is responsible for the Kembara RIUH programme takes the incident and the SOPs set by the Health Ministry seriously,” it said in a statement.

“Clear instructions were given to the event management company to fully comply with these SOPs to ensure the safety and health of visitors.”

MyCV said that the gathering had occurred spontaneously by visitors and was “not part of the organisers’ programme” and that the organisers along with a People’s Volunteer Corp (RELA) team had taken immediate action by asking those involved to disperse and leave.

“Police had contacted and taken statements from the organisers and full cooperation was extended to help with the investigations. MyCV will leave it up to the police to determine the outcome of the investigation,” it added.

“MyCV takes a serious view of safety issues and always stresses the importance of SOP compliance at all events. Specific SOPs are also stipulated for each event involving large crowds to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Following this incident, MyCV would like to apologise and will ensure that such incident will not recur in the future. MyCV has also instructed event management company to take stricter measures for Kembara RIUH in the future.”

The “RIUH EK!” concert which took place from March 4-6 was part of the ministry’s “Riuh Keluarga Malaysia” programme aimed at helping with the revival of the creative industry which has been in the doldrums due to the pandemic.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa who was in Johor to campaign for BN in the state polls over the weekend had also attended the event where he delivered a speech.

The incident had taken place after the minister had left the event. – March 8, 2022
