MyDigital ID has issued an apology for the recent spate of registration difficulties on its app, saying a preliminary investigation has revealed that multiple factors, some unrelated to the application, may have contributed to the issue.
“For example, during the facial recognition process, blurry facial features can affect the system’s ability to capture accurate data,” it said in a statement on its website.
“We also found that some users did not enable their device cameras, preventing the application from completing the facial recognition process.
“Additionally, device-related issues, such as difficulties downloading the app, also played a role in the online registration process.”
As you may recall, the platform saw a surge in registrations, with 150,000 new users signing up within 24 hours, following an announcement on the MyJPJ app that the MyDigital ID would be required for logins starting Oct 10.
Following the announcement, Malaysians have taken to social media to vent their frustration and share issues faced when registering for MyDigital ID, sharing complaints that the process takes a long time due to the MyDigital ID application lagging.
MyDigital ID added that its technical team has been constantly monitoring the registration system, adding that based on its logs, there have been no wait times in the past 48 hours, suggesting external causes for the issue.
It has also deployed over 100 agents to 84 Road Transport Department (JPJ) locations nationwide to assist with in-person MyDigital ID registration.
Since the initial announcement, the requirement was later deferred, with Transport Minister Anthony Loke announcing at a press conference on Wednesday (Oct 3) that users can continue accessing the MyJPJ app without MyDigital ID.
He said the October 10 deadline for users to register for MyDigital ID to access the MyJPJ app has been cancelled until a later date.
Elaborating, Loke said while his ministry and MyDigital ID remain committed to supporting the integration of MyDigital ID with JPJ, this needs to be executed seamlessly through backend integration.
He said the backend integration will take some time to ensure that pre-approval can be granted easily, adding that with 10.5 million MyJPJ app users, the system backend integration is key to facilitate the signing up process.
“There’s 10.5 million users that are currently active using the app, thus, the integration process will take some time,” he stated. – Oct 3, 2024
