MyDIGITAL, Petrosains partner to boost digital and STEM skills among indigenous students

MYDIGITAL Corporation has partnered with Petrosains, The Discovery Centre, to expand digital literacy, artificial intelligence (AI) awareness and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education among Malaysia’s indigenous communities.

The collaboration was launched through its first outreach programme at the Karnival Pendidikan Murid Peribumi Penan Peringkat Negeri Sarawak, organised by the Ministry of Education and the Sarawak State Education Department at Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang in Miri on July 1.

More than 200 indigenous students from the Penan, Iban, Kayan, Kenyah and Lun Bawang communities participated in the programme.

Students were introduced to MyDIGITAL Corporation’s Rakyat Digital platform, which provides free digital learning resources aimed at strengthening AI literacy, digital skills and technology awareness.

Petrosains complemented the programme with its signature science show and interactive STEM activities designed to encourage curiosity and hands-on learning.

MyDIGITAL Corporation chief executive officer Adrian Marcellus said the collaboration marked an important step towards making digital and AI literacy more accessible.

“By expanding our reach to Orang Asli and indigenous communities, we are helping build a more inclusive digital ecosystem where no community is left behind,” he stated.

“Through Rakyat Digital, we want every young Malaysian to have the skills and confidence to succeed in the digital economy.”

Meanwhile, Petrosains chief executive officer Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said greater access to STEM and digital education could open new opportunities for indigenous communities.

“We hope this collaboration will inspire curiosity, build confidence and equip young learners with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” she remarked.

Following the pilot programme in Sarawak, the initiative will be expanded nationwide in collaboration with state education departments, with outreach activities planned for schools serving indigenous communities in Kelantan, Pahang and Johor.

The collaboration supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) Action Plan: Towards an AI Nation, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on June 29.

One of the plan’s key priorities is to ensure digital transformation and AI adoption are inclusive and benefit all Malaysians.
