Najib: Did Bersatu just breach EC’s rules on campaigning?

FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak took pot shots at Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for organising a pre-launch event of its Johor election machinery, prior to getting approval from the Election Commission (EC).

“Did the Government repeal the Elections Offences Act 1954, which bars any campaigning or ceramah events before the EC announces it?

“And I guess the Health Ministry (MOH) had also revoked its order against face-to-face ceramah sessions during pandemic. Aren’t you guys afraid of contracting COVID-19?” he queried in jest, in his Facebook post.

Yesterday, over 200 members joined the Bersatu’s pre-election machinery event for the Maharani state seat, which was launched by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and party information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

According to Chegubard Original Facebook page, Muar Bersatu chief Basut Min vowed to do his best to ensure their party candidate wins the seat.

“While the people are going through so much hardship, the court cluster triggered the state polls in an attempt to pressure the prime minister to dissolve the Parliament.

“They just want to regain power and manipulate the situation to save themselves. Let us save the country and Johor,” Wan Saiful was reported as saying.

On that note, Najib stated “MOH and EC must explain how Bersatu was allowed to hold the event even before the campaigning period was announced.” – Feb 3, 2022.
