FORMER prime minister (PM) Datuk Seri Najib Razak has responded to former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s rants regarding the status of Malaysia as a multi-racial nation, saying to the elderly politician that the letter ‘M’ is not just for Mahathir.
In a twist, Najib is probably also suggesting that M is for all Malaysians. Nevertheless, Dr Mahathir has made several conflicting remarks on Malaysia’s status and Najib reacted to them with this comment on his social media accounts:
One day, say Malaysia is a multi-racial country.
Next day, say Malaysia is not a multi-racial country.Malaysia doesn’t belong to you.
“M” isn’t just for Mahathir. pic.twitter.com/AzHFGotH7y— Mohd Najib Tun Razak (@NajibRazak) July 27, 2023
The post is accompanied by a video in which Dr Mahathir is heard saying, “Malaysia is a multi-racial country and voters cannot vote for their community alone.”
This is a stark reminder of Dr Mahathir’s earlier position on the status of Malaysia as a multi-racial nation.
While Najib has struck hard against the recent rants from his nemesis, who brought him down as PM, those commenting on the post were not kind to Dr Mahathir altogether.
Twitter user @chinkw3881 stated:
First time ever l have to agree with this former PM. Yes, Malaysia is still a multi-racial country no matter how Tun has been trying hard to spin it in order to save his own skin.

Sir, apologies, but you are talking quite loosely. From a informal, colloquial point of view, `Malaysia a Malay country’ is as correct as ‘UK is an English country’. Both of which may be tolerable when uttered loosely (maybe not!).
An acceptable tweet which I can suggest to…
