THE solidarity fund established to help former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak settle his RM50 mil fine has collected RM9.25 mil as of 10am today, according to UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
However, Ahmad Zahid acknowledged that the amount raised so far remains well below the RM50 mil required.
He said efforts were continuing to boost contributions, while urging party members, supporters and other well-wishers to lend their support to the fundraising drive.
According to Zahid, the party is working to increase the collection and hope our friends can assist in the near future so that we can reach the amount that has been set by the Pardons Board.
Note that the amount has to be settled before the house arrest can be fully implemented.
The special fund was launched following the decision by the Federal Territories Pardons Board to allow Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
However, the house arrest arrangement comes with several conditions, including the requirement for Najib to settle the RM50 mil fine.
UMNO had previously announced the establishment of the fund as a means of helping to ease the former prime minister’s financial burden in paying the penalty.
Zahid said the fundraising effort is based on a spirit of solidarity rather than compulsion.
He added that the initiative was open to contributions from UMNO’s leadership, members and supporters, as well as members of the public who wished to express their support for Najib.
Contributions, he added, would be made voluntarily as efforts continue to raise the remaining amount needed to meet the RM50 mil target.—Sept 27, 2026
