FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak-orchestrated “Malu Apa” campaign is against the Islamic teachings and hence has violated the Federal Constitution which states that “Islam is the religion of the Federation; other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony”.
Likening such campaign as a biochemical weapon which “infects the healthy brains and minds of young and old”, tycoon Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew has written to Election Commission Malaysia (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh, urging the campaign “to be punished and denounced as haram (prohibited)”.
Like how the COVID-19 virus breakout can lead to the collapse of the medical system if the infection rate surges out of control, Lee expressed concern that if the “Malu Apa” campaign succeeds every election, “there will not be enough jail space and our security system will collapse in the future”.
“Without a sense of malu (shame) or healthy haya (shame in Arabic), how are teachers or parents going to educate their children? (The) ‘Malu Apa’ campaign must be stopped at all costs,” opined Lee who addressed himself as a “fellow citizen and voter of Malaysia” in his letter to Abdul Ghani.
He further lamented that Malaysians are disgusted with convicted criminals allowing to orchestrate election after election, thus disturbing the procedure of the judiciary system to perform its duties and practice the true spirit of democracy.
“It is the EC’s duty to protect, defend, and preserve the full content of the Federal Constitution, not just part of it,” insisted Lee who is also the executive chairman of Country Heights Holdings Bhd.
“(The Federal) Constitution has provided that the GE (general election) should be called every five years. If a political party can postpone their party election, why can’t the EC postpone the GE until the pandemic and court cases are cleared?
“(Should) party interest come first or the country come first? Under the pandemic, every election is like adding salt to the wound of the rakyat by creating new injuries for the country.”
Henceforth, Lee said the GE15 should not be called until the EC can ensure that all court cases are heard and justice served.
“The voices of the rakyat must be heard by the EC. The people of Malaysia are tired of election after election during this pandemic based on the low turnout,” he opined.
“Take this as a silent protest towards those ugly politicians who are only interested in the votes and to seize executive powers, and who have continuously called for elections at inappropriate timing, manipulating, hijacking, and trying to undermine our judiciary and democracy system.”
In a similar light, Lee said politicians who are convicted or are standing trial should render their utmost cooperation to enable the courts to reach a speedy verdict while those under bail must be carefully examined by the EC under the election law “to show responsibility towards Malaysian voters”.
Before the next GE, he stressed that two things must happen for the good of this country based on the principles of Rukun Negara (National Principles): Kedaulatan Undang-undang (Rule of Law) and Keluhuran Perlembagaan (Supremacy of the Constitution).
“Firstly, all court cases must be heard and cleared. Secondly, the ‘Malu Apa’ campaign must be stopped at all costs and denounced as haram,” he pointed out.
“We welcome healthy campaigns. Use Rukun Negara to bring back the peace, harmony, and dignity of Malaysia. Use the Federal constitution to bring back law and order, the most important part of our democracy, the monarch democracy system of Malaysia.
“Promoting and protecting the Islamic value of haya (shame) and learning the power of haya would help the EC overcome lots of problems in managing next GE.” – March 29, 2022
