NanoMalaysia to boost nanotech commercialisation, begins two initiatives

NANOMALAYSIA Bhd (NMB) is all geared up to launch two groundbreaking programmes, REVOLUTIoNT and Hydrogen EcoNanoMy, to propel the commercialisation of nanotechnology further in the country.

In a statement, it said the REVOLUTIoNT programme will facilitate and commercialise the production of complex and valuable intellectual property, products and systems solutions.

On the other hand, the Hydrogen EcoNanoMy programme will apply NanoMalaysia’s on-site generated hydrogen technology to create a National Hydrogen Industrial Ecosystem for the energy sector.

The programmes are part of its effort to fulfill its role as one of the implementing agencies for key segments of the recently introduced National Fourth Industrial Revolution Policy (National 4IR Policy).

“NMB’s role in the National 4IR Policy is integral in driving Malaysia closer towards the aspirations of the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation 2021 – 2030 in becoming a high-tech nation by 2030,” said Science, Technology and Innovation deputy minister Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed Hashim.

With nanotechnology as one of its primary technological pillars, the National 4IR Policy is expected to boost all sectors’ productivity by 30% by 2030 and help to increase the number of local skilled workers as well as the production of higher value-added products, he added.

According to the statement, from 2016 until last year, NMB undertook 52 product development projects, 41 scale-up projects and supported and created a mix of 22 joint ventures and start-up companies.

It has also successfully developed 55 intellectual properties, 25 patents, 17 copyrights and commercialised 166 products.

Additionally, NanoVerify Sdn Bhd, NMB’s wholly owned company has certified 118 products via NANOVerify, Malaysia’s first and only nano certification programme recognised by the Taiwan Nanotechnology Industry Association (TANIDA). – Aug 1, 2021.
