IS the iconic nasi lemak undefeatable only in Boleh Land? Not necessarily so. It would appear that this simple but highly addictive meal of rice, sambal and egg would appeal to the taste buds of foreign nationals too.
According to a video post on X, a talented Malay man could be seen preparing nasi lemak from scratch for his Korean colleagues.

Just from the video and the instructions involved, viewers can observe that he is not stingy on the ingredients, so expect a superlative nasi lemak.
The light hearted video doubles up as a nasi lemak cooking guide as well as an amazing yet indirect advertisement for Tourism Malaysia.
More endearing was the fact that the man’s Korean colleagues could be seen enjoying the meal, with some even using their hand to eat. Unsurprisingly, his nasi lemak was “sold out” in the office.
The post has since garnered over 4,300 shares on cyberspace with many netizens praising his cooking skills.
“I usually eat nasi lemak but still I salivate looking at this video,” said Bang Jimm.
Netizen Luke Man said when people eat until they add stuff, that is indescribable joy.
Also, another netizen praised the cook for cooking so much alone.
Then there was a particularly adorable Korean man in the video named Mr Choi who took the spotlight with his indomitable attitude.
Not only did he eat with his hands, netizens counted that he had about three helpings of nasi lemak.
“One pack of nasi lemak in banana leaves is RM2.50. Add a piece of chicken RM4. Total RM6.50. Mr Choi ate three, RM6.50 times three equals RM19.50,” said a helpful netizen.
Looking at the way the meal was so methodically cooked and the amount of ingredients used, we are not surprised by the ravishing reception from the hungry Korean crowd.
To our Korean friends, there are many more variations of nasi lemak for them to experience should they find the time to visit Malaysia Truly Asia.
Then again, there are countless other mouth watering meals that we Malaysians are proud about, which explains why tourists near and far keep coming back for more.
As for the Malay chef who showed Korea a wonderful glimpse of Malaysian cuisine, we can only hope other Malaysians abroad have the talent to cook up a similar treat. – Oct 21, 2024
