Nationwide Express props up its financial position with B2C biz focus

NATIONWIDE Express Courier Services Bhd has embarked on reviving its financial condition by boosting its business-to-consumer (B2C) channel along with several cost optimisation and sales strategies.

Its B2C business expansion strategy commenced last year in tandem with a spike in e-commerce business as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and movement control order (MCO 2.0).

Traditionally, 95% of Nationwide Express’ business came from the business-to-business (B2B) channel but in the recent months, its B2C business has grown tremendously as customers become acquainted with the use of digital and online platforms.

To capitalise on such trend, the company’s in-house IT unit has enhanced its courier application and B2C platform by enabling Nationwide Express’ customers to do live tracking update.

Apart from gaining a better analytical insight into improving the level of its services, Nationwide Express had also embarked on the re-designing of courier bags for more than 350 of its motorbike couriers.

This will enable its despatch riders to handle more volume while ensuring a more effective and secure delivery methods to customers.

Nationwide Express’ CEO Wan Mohamed Den Wan Mohamed Zin envisages these initiatives as part of the company’s re-branding exercise to promote its brand presence in line with its turnaround expansion programme dubbed “Back to Black” which was launched in February last year.

“Since my appointment to helm the company a year ago, one of the biggest tasks entrusted to me is to remedy the company’s financials and regularise its PN17 status,” he pointed out during the launch of the company’s new IT system and the improved courier bags.

Thus far, the initiatives undertaken have enabled the company is to par its monthly net loss to RM1 mil from an average of RM2 mil during the previous financial year.

“With the shift in business needs and to enable to remain competitive, it is timely for us to explore other avenues in order to capture the market share,” noted Wan Den.

Being an essential service provider, Nationwide Express is committed to operate as usual throughout the entire MCO 2.0 period with all branches and agents across the country remaining open on weekdays from 9am to 6pm.

Additionally, Nationwide Express has extended its operational hours on weekends at its selected branches in Shah Alam, Ipoh, Kuantan and Kulai from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturdays and from 9.30am to 5.30pm every Sunday. – Feb 1, 2021
