Needy pupils tap XOX’s mobile data crowdfunding for remote learning

DIGITAL solution provider XOX Bhd and ONEXOX Sdn Bhd has rolled out a new initiative #JomBantu: Data Untuk Mereka programme to help Malaysian students from low-income families better manage their studies in conjunction with the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).

PdPR which has become a norm following school closure to contain the spread of COVID-19 among teachers and pupils have posed a challenge to many underprivileged students who struggle to join online classes as they are deprived of mobile data than they could ill-afford to purchase.

XOX Bhd saw this as a major issue and incorporated a collaborative effort with the public to assist the students.

The #JomBantu pilot project began with mobile data crowdfunding which is open to all subscribers and communities within the XOX network.

Data that accumulated into its data bank can be donated from 0.1GB up to 10GB either on a one-off or on monthly basis. Students who are eligible for this programme will benefit from free monthly 10GB data. To date, the programme has assisted 120 students.

XOX’s group CEO Ng Kok Heng said the company is looking to commence phase two of #JomBantu, by enabling the public who are non-XOX subscribers to join in the effort to contribute mobile data to students.

“For now, this initiative covers the contribution of mobile data to school students. In future, we are looking to promote the concept of sharing to the society through our plans and products,” he added.

XOX Bhd intends to help 5,000 students from around Malaysia to have the same learning opportunity as others. The company urges the public to continue sharing their data for this noble cause as it aims to assist these students until the schools reopen.
