Netizen shares cultural insights into Thailand that may surprise people

MORE than just the scenery and good food, the pleasures of visiting a foreign country is also about experiencing the culture of the place.

With some countries it can be interesting. With others, however, it can be downright confusing or mind boggling.

Here in a viral post on X by netizen Zalea ❀ ⋆。゚, she describes the interesting culture in Bangkok having visited the place sometime back.

The post has since gained the attention of many netizens on cyberspace.

According to her, Vape or electronic cigarettes are illegal in Thailand. Those caught may be fined about 5,000 baht or equivalent to about RM600, or even jail time.

Zalea ❀ ⋆。゚said she has yet to be caught but advised fellow vapers to be cautious when stepping foot into the Land Of Tom Yam.

Also, just because a food seller wears a hijab doesn’t mean the food is halal since there are non-muslim employers who intentionally hire muslim workers to up their sales with the muslims.

“If in the mall there are shops where the word Halal is written large, insyaAllah, you can eat there. Check the website for halal in Thailand,” Zalea ❀ ⋆。゚said.

“This is the halal logo in Thailand, so if you want to buy instant food like bread or water, find this logo,” she helpfully added.

Apparently the 7-Eleven convenience store there also had some unique features not found in malaysia. She claimed that the cashier will give stickers with Doraemon cartoons on it.

“Don’t throw it. You can use the sticker as a discount coupon. Use it next time when you need to buy something. However, the sticker cannot be redeemed at the airport,” she said.

With regards to people culture, the muslims there are mostly able to converse in Malay as they hail from Patani.

“I have been shamed several times when I ask questions in the Thai language but he replies in Malay. We go there to practise their language but they speak our language, but it is easy for Malays to go there,” she said.

Not unlike in Malaysia, the Thais are also very caring towards their king. Zalea ❀ ⋆。゚further advised tourists to be careful and to watch their mouth regarding this subject.

“Also, don’t step on their money or any poster which has the picture of their king,” she said.

Bangkok also shares one similarity with Kuala Lumpur, and that is the traffic jam.

“Although it is not me who is driving, I get tired just looking at it,” she said, adding that the traffic just won’t move during the peak season.

Zalea ❀ ⋆。゚advised tourists not to drive a car or to rent one there, but instead to take a Tuktuk, Grab or Bolt. —Nov 10, 2024
