Netizen shares stories from Taiping prison, and it chills the cyberspace

PRISON being a place for punishment is also a place filled with stories, and in an interesting twist, even food.

A netizen on X came forth to share his experience working at the Taiping prison, and it has garnered quite a lot of traction on the cyberspace.

According to _sepul_, one of the longest serving prisoner there was going through a sentence of 75 years for raping three of his grand children.

When asked, the man chillingly replied, “Before someone else tasted them, it was best that I taste them first, sir.”

His story prompted Farizan Jaffar to share about her husband who worked at the Changi prison in Singapore. Apparently there was an elderly man incarcerated there for raping his grand children.

“When my husband asked him if he felt wrong for doing it, he replied that the child was indebted to him as he had taken care of the child since young,” she said.

The gory gauntlet was soon replaced by a lighter topic on economics, where  _sepul_  highlighted the diet of the inmates in Taiping prison at six meals per day, totalling RM35.40.

“The food don’t contain salt. The drinks don’t contain sugar. That is why the prisoners need to work to get the salary to buy sauce and sugar,” he said, adding that there are approximately 90,000 prisoners in Malaysia.

_sepul_ went on to state that the favourite last food for those inmates scheduled for hanging was Kentucky Fried Chicken and that the last hanging at the Taiping prison was in 2018.

A maths wizard in the comment section said that at 90,000 prisoners and RM35.40 per person, that would amount to RM3,186,000 a day, RM 95,580,000 a month and RM 1.15 bil annually.

“All these are supported by the tax from the citizens. Even rapists are given meals. It is cheaper to hang them. RM1 bil can be used to build hospitals,” he said.

Interestingly, the story took on a turn into food where hyqal, who claimed to be a former chef in a prison in Ipoh, said _sepul_’s statement was not true.

“You are lying about the food there not containing salt or sugar. The food there is about RM4 to RM6 per meal. Portions are small, the rice, protein and vegetables are little,” he said.

“They get six meals a day, no wonder the prisoners don’t repent. I only get three meals a day,” said putput.

shzman added that he once worked at the prison in Kajang, and that the Roti John there was delicious.

As for us, we find the stories about delicious meals and six meals per day very inviting, although we would rather remain outside the prison like every other normal person.

It takes very little effort to get into prison, and every effort to get out of it. As for the horror stories, we love to hear about it, not be part of it. —Dec 31, 2024
