OF late, Malaysians will find a recurring topic that is trending on the digital space. Interestingly, it is not about the economy in which Malaysia can certainly improve on.
Or even about politicians having hundreds of millions in ringgit even though their monthly salary is about the level of a senior manager in some public listed company.
The topic has everything to do with our obsession with all things halal or haram. Taking a jab at this obsession is no other than netizen @fadzilnoir with his picture post on X, showcasing the many spectrums of halal in Malaysia.
According to him, halal or haram is not a black and white statement, but can be placed into 10 distinct categories according to their severity or degree of awesomeness.

The highest is no other than the Mega Supreme Halal, where a restaurant is halal certified, owned by a muslim, and the muslim staff there prays, not forgetting that the owner sponsors the staff to umrah.
A few levels below it was the Assumed Halal, where a restaurant is owned by a muslim, but does not have a halal certification.
The list goes on. Although the categories are purely satire, it has in a way reflected the Malaysian mentality when viewing things purely in the lens of halal or haram.
Unsurprisingly, the post has sparked a good deal of debate in the comment section and we have to say that the feedback from the netizens are pure comedy gold.
“Ok, if a Muslim owner used money from ill gotten gains, sends staff for Umrah with bond so the staff has to pay back from salary deduction, which spectrum will that be?” wondered netizen @eddienglfc.
Towards this comment, @ElvinYong7 jokingly replied that it was under the Supreme Halal category since using haram money for charity cleanses the money.
Netizen @KarthusX21a further pointed out another category which the topic starter had missed.
This comment by @BadryHanafi is worth several moments of quiet reflection too.

In the eyes of @0xJarod the different levels of halal or haram is similar to the specs of a handphone.

A flabbergasted netizen added that he couldn’t even cope with the rigors of the vegan certification.
“Haram this and that end up still cannot go heaven,” said @Roti95753458.
Away from the comment section, we would like to point out to the topic starter that perhaps he might have missed out two crucial categories.
One is no other than “Halal Pending,” for those non-muslim restaurant owners who are still struggling to get their halal certification.
Ending this topic is the final category called the “Please don’t ask too many questions Halal,” that is if you get our drift.—Aug 11, 2026
