WHAT comes to mind when Singapore is mentioned alongside Malaysia? For our neighbour, it is most likely their superior currency which turns Malaysia into a shopping haven for them.
But one proud Singaporean netizen has gone further to say that Singapore is better than Malaysia in every way with the exception of our ability to make babies.
Reading the post on X, we expect Malaysian netizens to come out in droves with their flamethrowers blazing, and we are not disappointed.
Ahem.
Singapore has better English.
Singapore has virtually no corruption.
Singapore does not rip off tourists.
Singapore has parks everywhere.
Singapore is renowned for its food.
Everything Malaysia has, Singapore does better…
…Except prices.
And, arguably, families. https://t.co/krdHkdW2cO

One netizen aptly named Speak The Truth immediately homed in on a pain point, saying that it was expensive to own a car in Singapore, that Singaporeans usually resort to filling up their petrol in Malaysia due to the subsidy.
Then there was Ooi Beng Cheang who pointed out Singapore’s lack of natural resources.
Also, the winner of the picture comment goes to Ayep Seorang yang Teliti, who subtly and sarcastically suggested that the food in Singapore isn’t as good as it seems.
And when we thought the roasting would end, here comes another sharp-witted netizen to highlight Singapore’s dependence on Malaysia for clean water.
Perhaps realising the absurdity of the post, even a fellow Singaporean netizen decided to turn the gun on Kit Sun Cheah.
According to another netizen, Singaporeans usually prefer Malaysia as a place for retirement, claiming that many of the high end houses in Johor Bahru are being snapped up by Singaporeans or Malaysians working there. How’s that for superiority?
The saving grace comes from a Malaysian who cited Singapore’s superior urban planning although there isn’t much in terms of tourist attraction.
Kit Sun Cheah has refrained from making any comments since becoming the recipient of the barrage of online salvos.
Perhaps the informal education should serve as a wake up call for him to review the long list he posted on X.
As for us, we believe there is something vital our angry local netizens failed to mention where Singapore is concerned. It is the lack of freedom.
Freedom although intangible, it a hidden cost that Singaporeans pay for, living in a small island state where life is mostly controlled by the government.
We love the Sing Dollar, no doubt, but more than that, we love the right to choose. —Dec 9, 2024
