Netizens angry at anti-Anwar activist Khalid Ismath, charged with domestic abuse

UNFORTUNATELY, domestic abuse is a common problem that is faced all over the world. Malaysia is no exception, especially when it comes to political leaders, activists and sometimes business figures.

Regardless of the fact that it is a common problem, that does not mean that it is okay to engage in it. Many are shocked to find that Khalid Ismath is charged with domestic abuse against his wife.

User @EiraNY claimed to be the wife of the activist wrote: “Khalid Mohd Ismath (KMI) has been charged and released on bail for committing domestic violence against me.”

The story went viral on social media with her post garnering 1.4 million views at the time of writing.

Khalid was getting a lot of traction for his anti-Anwar and anti-PH comments on Twitter, for example. Now that he is charged with domestic abuse, users are ganging up against him.

There is an uproar on Twitter about this issue. Some netizens are saying that he used to be a perfect reference for certain political parties.

However, those who previously supported him by referencing him are now silent, stated the netizen. He asked if there would be anyone supporting him now after this ordeal.

Nevertheless, his wife updated that he is currently on bail after being charged with abusing her.

She noted that he physically and sexually assaulted her during their marriage. She added that he accused her of cheating on him, an accusation that she denies.

More support is shown towards his wife in her dire situation, with other women stating that she is brave.

In 2022, former women, family and community development minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun stated that domestic abuse rose by 42% during the pandemic.

It is a worrying fact, as problems like these tend to have a chain reaction. Currently, there are programmes for women who suffer from abusive partners, but they are still fairly limited. — May 13, 2023
