MALAYSIA’s anti-corruption drive broadens, now spotlighting billionaire Mirzan Mahathir the son of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, signalling an escalation of investigations beyond initial targets.
Following the seizure of a landmark skyscraper owned by tycoon Tun Daim Zainuddin, inquiries are now focused on Mirzan.
The move sends a clear signal that no one is beyond scrutiny, challenging entrenched political-business ties. Investigating figures like Tan Sri Halim Saad and Mirzan Mahathir signifies a shift in Malaysia’s economic landscape, aiming to break crony networks.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s strategic stance seeks to hold rivals accountable, dismissing accusations of vendetta.
However, social media users are now divided on the investigations against Mirzan.
Some X users are saying this does not look good on the MACC or that it shows vendetta.
This is now (seems) happening bcos that old guy refuses 2 shut-up. It also reflects poorly on MACC 2b seen, 4ever, on d leash of d Govt-of-d-day. If there were dead-strong resolves 2 bring these long-time cronies 2 book, it shud hd happen right fm d time DSAI was sworn in.

Other users are criticising Dr Mahathir for the moves he made during his second time as prime minister. – Dec 30, 2023
Old man knew Sheraton move all along but he shamefully denies just to avoid handing over to DSAI. All his actions now confirm this, by hook or crook stop DSAI becoming PM or topple him. All the Goebbels-like social media false propaganda is evidence of that.
