Netizens ask Hadi Awang when PAS will impose hudud in its states

PAS has maintained control of the three states in the Malay belt with a significant margin of victory over the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalitions.

Following PAS leader Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s recent comments on political pardons and Islam, there is increasing curiosity among netizens regarding when his party intends to implement hudud laws in the three PAS-governed states.

On Friday (Sept 1), the official page of the PAS on Twitter posted a message from Hadi. It said in short there is no forgiveness or pardon in Islam after someone is found guilty according to the law.

His remarks prompted users on Twitter to raise questions about his party’s dedication to implementing hudud laws, a set of laws that Hadi frequently invokes to criticise Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in particular.

In this case, he is probably saying that Anwar does not deserve a pardon because no one among humans can pardon someone who is already condemned.

While he forgets that the laws under which Anwar was condemned in the past had a final legal recourse that is the pardon from the King of Malaysia, the former was not jailed or found guilty under any Islamic laws.

Meanwhile, a user on Twitter noted that Hadi once wrote a book on Anwar and the victims of fitnah (slander) in Malaysia.

(The victim of false accusations is once again falsely accused by the author of the book about the victim.)

Nonetheless, another user reminded Hadi there are no hudud laws in Malaysia.

(When did Malaysia implement hudud? You even requested to defer the discussion of RUU355 in Parliament recently. Back when ATGNA (the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat) was around, you definitely couldn’t say things like this. From the beginning, ATGNA would have cut it off.”

(When are you going to implement hudud in Kelantan and Terengganu? Hadi Awang is only good at telling lies!) – Sept 2, 2023
