Netizens claim Rohingya boat a threat to Langkawi

RECENTLY, the Rohingya refugees took up the headlines with the arrival of three boats to Langkawi. Their presence has always been viewed in two lenses, humanitarian crisis or threat.

It appears to be the latter for netizen MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL, who in a viral video post on X, advised the people of Langkawi to take action.

“Are the people of Langkawi just going to close their eyes? Come out in numbers and wait at the side of the beaches,” said MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL.

Netizen Who Amm I? supported his call, saying that it was time to protect the motherland. “This Rohingya tribe is getting out of hand. It must be the work of an insider,” he added.

Another netizen said this is a race similar to the Yahudi. “Give them a calve and they want the thigh. When there are a lot of them at a place, the Rohingya will claim it as their own. This is a dangerous race,” said zyda.

A pessimistic Just K, however, said that the issue may be too much for them to handle since they couldn’t even resolve the issue at the Pasar Besar Selayang.

It would appear to be perilous for anyone who offers aid to the Rohingya too with the negative remarks populating the comment section.

“The people who strongly support the Rohingya are likely the land smugglers,” said Mohd Rajit Hj Sujak.

Another netizen said that hopefully, the non-governmental-organisation that plays up the issue later can bring them to their homes.

On another note, parjoko claimed that there is already a school and a care centre for Rohingya at Langkawi.

One netizen pointed out that this is similar to Sabah where they have built homes at the edges of the island.

Hilmi Adi Ruzaini further stated that there is a whole illegal village at Langkawi called Bukit Malut.

According to The Star, the first boat that landed on the shores of Teluk Yu near Ayer Hangat contained some 200 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.

Malaysian authorities further announced that they have turned away two boats carrying nearly 300 people just yesterday. —Jan 5, 2025
