Netizens commemorate Anwar’s heroic reception in Johor

JOHOR is the state where Umno and Perikatan Nasional performed well in the recently concluded 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19, and everyone appears to be in awe of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s massive and boisterous reception in Johor yesterday (Dec 30).

Anwar’s first working visit to Johor since taking office nearly a month ago drew a large crowd to Kampung Melayu Majidee.

When the Prime Minister arrived at a murtabak restaurant in the village here around noon, he was greeted by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

It was the two leaders’ first face-to-face meeting since the Tambun MP was appointed to lead the country’s first-ever unity government on Nov 24.

However, this was not the main highlight of the event on social media networks, where the massive crowd chanting “reformasi” and many people calling the Prime Minister’s name to get his attention won hearts online.

Several Twitter accounts documented the event or reported on how large the crowd was and how ‘popular’ Anwar is in their opinion.

“The Johor people’s great response to PM10 at the Masjid Kampung Melayu Majidee, JB, today,” wrote the user in a tweet that has garnered around 110,000 views at the time of writing.

Replying to the tweet, a user, MHI@hzq_brq wrote is saying that the people have faith in Anwar but it only Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who does not have faith in the latter.

A video from @kllmmisai post shows that Anwar’s security personnel had great difficulties to prevent the mob-like crowd from pushing forward to see and greet the Prime Minister.

Anwar was all smile, stretching his arm to the nearest supporters to shake their hands, squeezing himself between the officers assuring his security and a car parked in the pathway.

This is when someone in the crowd started shouting ‘reformasi’ and the crowd repeated in tandem while Anwar climbed up from the car’s door to salute the cheering crowd.

In the post below, a user @rakyatPMAnwar wrote that he feels Anwar is more popular than artists, seeing the crowd that has surrounded the PM during his visit in Johor. — Dec 31, 2022
