Netizens correcting Cuepacs on ‘ridiculous’ demands

TWITTER is ablaze with criticism of Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) today from internet users who believe the Government erred by not “offering” more to the state officials.

An online user said that it was appropriate to see Twitter users reprimanding CUEPACS for their “careless” demands.

User @domesticgod8 said:

Several netizens appear to think that CUEPACS shouldn’t make excessive demands considering the current economic climate and the fact that the government is working to assist individuals at the bottom of the economic ladder.

The comments from Twitter users came after another user posted a quote from CUEPACS after the trade union leader said the organisation is disappointed with the presentation of the Budget 2023 which does not touch on the salary increase of civil servants.

“The budget presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (Feb 24) was viewed as insufficient to address the cost of living pressure problem currently confronting the people (civil servants),” said CUEPACS president Datuk Adnan Mat.

Moreover, netizens were quick to point out that the civil servants did get attention in the budget with a one-off payment of RM700 for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

User @eqazainal who claimed to be a civil servant, also rejected the statement by the CUEPACS boss.

In English, the user is saying, “I am a civil servant. For as long as I have been a civil servant, my circle (group of people) never discussed about salary increment.

“In fact, I have always questioned whether there’s any other capital left during every tabled budget. Please don’t generalise civil servants as ungrateful. We are ok, we are grateful.”

Meanwhile, in the Budget 2023 speech, Anwar announced that civil servants in Grade 56 and below will receive special financial aid of RM700 for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Civil servants on contract and government pensioners would also receive special aid for Hari Raya amounting to RM350. The payments were expected to be disbursed in April.

Furthermore, Anwar added that  a special allowance of RM100 per day would be given to all search and rescue personnel involved in the relief mission to quake-hit Turkiye and Syria. — Feb 25, 2023
