MALAYSIA Rail Link (MRL) and China Communications Construction ECRL signed a joint-venture agreement to operate the 665km East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), connecting Kota Bharu to Port Klang.
While MRL retains full ownership of ECRL assets. The project is 76% complete. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook unveiled the new Electric Multiple Unit trains, designed for 430 passengers, set to operate by January 2027.
But some netizens are attacking the current government for the insertion of the Madani logo on the train in the photo-ops of the project.
A netizen said this project was initiated by the former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. There were harsh comments about the current government for taking credit for the project.

“Putting the Madani logo on everything. If it were on a school toilet, fine, people would understand it’s your project. Ridiculous!” said another user.
While some people think Najib should still be credited, others sarcastically say these trains should have the previous 1 Malaysia logo instead.
Habistu, takkan nak letak nama najib kat situ? Ke walajib nak logo 1 Malaysia? 🤣🤣🤣

Additionally, some acknowledged that this project was initiated under the previous government. But, they say the project would have easily been shelved and forgotten. However, due to the convenience it will bring, it is seen as a necessary project for the government to undertake.

Nevertheless, this project is essential as the existing trains on the East Coast are outdated. Electrified double tracks are required for enhanced speed and efficiency.
Moreover, the current east-coast line begins its journey from Johor Bahru, forcing those from Kuala Lumpur to travel to Gemas and change trains. — Dec 21, 2024
