Netizens lambast Najib for his offer to help the country post COVID-19

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said his predecessor Datuk Seri Najib Razak is still prepared to contribute towards the country’s economic recovery post COVID-19.

“Najib is committed in contributing time, energy and ideas as a team for the sake of Keluarga Malaysia,” the prime minister said in his Facebook posting last night.

Ismail Sabri earlier had an hour-long meeting with Najib on Tuesday at which they discussed economic challenges both inside and outside the country, including strategies to fight the pandemic.

This had unleashed a barrage of netizens who took to social media to voice out their displeasure.

Twitter, user @wasabi1388 wished the country good luck now that the “UMNO kleptocrat family is officially reunited”.

“Most people are getting poorer while the kleptocrats and their cronies are getting richer every day. Malaysia is truly a semua boleh land!” he complained.

User @ameen7006, meanwhile, opined that Najib need to deal with his court cases first. “We know how he had managed the economy before in his administration until this nation had become a laughing stock.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine that. Hello PM9, don’t you have better people to help you on this?”

Tagging former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, user @needweeds chimed in, “Doesn’t anyone remember that he stole from us?”

Netizens further weighed in on the topic of Ismail Sabri’s official Facebook page. While some netizens approved the meeting claiming that it would bode well for the country’s economy and the COVID-19 pandemic management, others had similarly voiced their displeasure.

“I wouldn’t mind if the discussion was about the country’s economy but why discuss this with the person who was accused of plundering the country’s coffers?” asked one user.

“Najib has been found guilty of all seven counts (in the 1MDB subsidiary case). Where is his punishment? How is he still free?”

“You ought to settle your 1MDB and income tax court cases before attempting to resolve the country’s woes. A person with integrity wouldn’t avoid paying tax and declaring his assets,” opined another user.

Meanwhile, another user pointed out in jest that Ismail Sabri ought to appoint Najib as a sports commentator.

“Since Ismail Sabri became Prime Minister, Najib has only commented on sports and no longer speaks of the rakyat’s woes or COVID-19-related matters. Please appoint him as sports advisor to PM with minister status,” he said sarcastically. – Sept 8, 2021.
