IN recent months, there have been several reports of drug cases in the conservative state of Kelantan.
Social media users have pointed out the irony, noting that PAS which has governed the state for several decades and champions a strict, squeaky-clean social standard in its policies, is failing with such controversies.
A total of 169,691 drug addicts were recorded in the first nine months of this year in Malaysia, an increase of 40,780 from the same period last year.
National Anti-Drug Agency Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said that 162,360 were men, while 7,331 were women.
Kelantan recorded the highest number of addicts per 100,000 population. Youth aged 19 to 39 had the highest cases (98,977), followed by adults over 40 (69,937).
Synthetic drugs accounted for the most cases (119,410), followed by opiates (38,854), cannabis (6,750), and psychotropic pills (2,114). —Nov 10, 2024
