AGHAST over Umno MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan’s candidacy to become Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker, the public took to social media to denounce the matter.
(“How can you nominate him? You don’t have anyone else? Please settle your court cases first. Even if you’re innocent, you still have court matters to deal with.
(“I suggest you focus on your constituency first. Develop Pontian first and later we can talk about you becoming deputy speaker. This is so tiresome.”) said user Muhd Zuliham.
User Danissh added:
(“Please don’t do this. The Speaker’s position has been tainted and Pontian MP will go down in history as another joker in the likes of Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, which will tarnish the august house’s reputation. Please protect Dewan Rakyat’s sanctity.”)
Last week, it was reported that Umno had nominated Ahmad Maslan to replace Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who had quit her position.
However, his nomination drew ire of many as he is currently facing trial for allegedly failing to disclose RM2mil received from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
He was also accused of giving false statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Yesterday, PAS vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad said that he was confident that MPs from his party would support Ahmad Maslan’s candidacy and stressed that the latter was innocent until proven guilty.
Touching on PAS’ support for the Umno MP, user Orangee claimed that the Islamist party would support anyone, as long as they were given plush positions.
User Indrren posted a footage, showing PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang of saying that corruption is not covered under Syariah law and not categorised as theft or robbery. – Sept 13, 2021
