Netizens pan Melaka PAS leader for playing up religious sensitivities

A short video posted by Melaka PAS’ Women Wing had netizens riled up, claiming it was playing up religious sensitivities to garner votes for the Melaka state election.

In the one-minute video, its women’s wing treasurer Hawa Yaakob said that it was compulsory for Muslims to be active in politics, whether they like it or not, just like when they perform prayers, fasting and covering up to protect one’s modesty.

She also quoted former Turkish prime minister Necmettin Erbakan, where he was purported to have said that Muslims who abhor politics will be ruled by leaders who will disregard Muslims.

“If we don’t participate, Muslims in Malaysia will end up being sidelined and persecuted like what is happening among Uyghurs (China) and Kashmir (India).

“And we have glimpses of it during the previous Pakatan Harapan administration,” Hawa alleged.

Citing examples, she claimed that Pakatan leaders had allowed cremains of Chin Peng, former Communist Party of Malaysia (CPM) chief, to be brought back to Malaysia for final rites.

“And Pakatan leaders had a meeting with CPM; the party which is clearly brutal and rejects Islam.”

However, the public were not impressed with the lady’s assertions and called her out for playing up religious sensitivities.

Netizen Kamila Samsuddin said she was aghast that the Islamist party was spreading hate and felt ashamed of their conduct.

In a rebuttal against the video, netizen Silent Reader Bertaraf Menteri posted a two-minute video showing PAS’ ally, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin denying claims that Chin Peng’s cremains was allowed into Malaysia’ during his tenure as Home Minister during Pakatan’s administration.

The user also urged Hawa to provide proof that Pakatan leaders held meetings with the defunct CPM members.

Talk manifesto, ditch dirty politics

On that note, user Sandy Laxm said that PAS should not compare the dynamics in Malaysia with what is happening in India and China, where here it is about getting good leaders.

User Anas Syakirullah remarked: “Bincang manifesto dan apa kemajuan nak buat dkt melaka tu tak, duk guna isu agama isu perkauman untuk raih undi. Dasar politik kotor.”

(Talk about your manifesto and what improvements you are going to make in Melaka. No point playing up racial and religious sensitivities to get votes. Such dirty politics).- Nov 14, 2021.
