Netizens shame Nga Kor Ming for unable to differentiate between “public” and “VIP” toilets

DAP vice-chairman NGA Kor Ming is seemingly staying clear of ‘political landmines’ by keeping himself occupied with upkeep of the “BMW standard” public toilets, at times over-promoting them on the social media to the extent that he irks netizens who are very alert of their surroundings these days.

Editor’s note: To the uninitiated, BMW is simply the Malay acronym for Bersih (clean), Menawan (attractive), Wangi (pleasant smelling).

A case in point is how the Housing and Local Government Minister boasted about what is deemed to be a “BMW class” public toilet in line with his ministry’s policy at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

“Another BMW standard public toilet in line with KPKT policy. 🫶🏼🫶🏼♥️ This time at KLIA,” he gladly showcased the gleaming toilet floors, sinks, urinals and toilet bowls alongside the posh ambience. “Cleanliness is part of faith. A clean Malaysia is our responsibility.”

But the publicity stunt turned awry when some netizens exposed and shamed Nga for misleading the public given the toilets that he displayed on his post are only found at the Plaza Premium Lounge at the KLIA’s Satellite Terminal.

The brickbats hurled at Nga for his overzealousness range from “a prank by the Direct award Party (nickname given to DAP following allegation of cronyism in the award of the transit system project to the company co-founded by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s husband) to “very embarrassing to lie on Twitter, YB”.

A netizen teased the Teluk Intan MP further by suggesting that he has “never used public toilets before at airports”.

Another supposedly fussy netizen claimed that many toilets along the rest & recreational stop-overs of expressways in the country “are still filthy and smelly” with Malaysia still having “the dirtiest and smelliest public toilet in the world”.

However, they are other non-suspecting netizens who ‘innocently’ praised the Madani government for a job well-done.

Foe the record, Nga has been mobilising Malysia’s 155 local authorities to set up public toilet cleanliness monitoring units as the unkempt condition of public restrooms especially those located in tourist spots and gateways can reflect poorly on the country’s image.

This is especially so given 2025 has been declared as Visit Malaysia Year with an estimated tourist arrivals of over 23 million expected and potentially raking in an income of RM76.8 bil for the country. – June 5, 2024
