Netizens shoot down Khairy’s talk of amnesty for Najib and other politicians

FORMER Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has once again made some waves on social media after he brought up suggestions he said were made by some for granting an amnesty to jailed former prime minister (PM) Datuk Seri Najib Razak. This will mean the unconditional release of the former 1MDB chair, thus absolving him of all the crimes linked to his tenure as PM.

Khairy, speaking on the show, Keluar Sekejap suggested on behalf of others that this was supposed to help PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his current dilemma of facing a resurgent Perikatan Nasional (PN) opposition.

In the Twitter account of @keluarsekejap it wrote:

Kelantangan penyokong Bossku memberi gambaran kumpulan itu mahukan perubahan di peringkat kepimpinan tertinggi UMNO dalam usaha membebaskan DS @NajibRazak.

However, Twitter user @FreeMsian stated:

This proposal has so many problems:
1) It is double standards. If you are a politician, you are not doing time. People will lose confidence in voting.
2) There is no admission by these politicians that they stole or took bribe. Without this, the people will remain in the dark.

The question that follows is pertinent: If an average Malaysian were to commit a crime, they could be sentenced and jailed. If this proposal were to be taken seriously, would it be applied to the common thief as well?
