NETIZENS have lauded the intention of former de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim to tweet less now – not that he has been cowed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) – but because iPhone is expensive (he claimed that the device costs more than RM5,000/unit now).
“Every time they’d investigate my tweet, they (will) take away my iPhone … Every time MCMC takes the phone, it will be a year or more before they return it to you. Naturally, you have to buy a new one,” ranted the Kota Bahru-born legal practitioner who is currently an UMNO member with a Perikatan Nasional (PN) slant in his latest tweet.
Zaid further took a swipe at Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil who has transformed into “an enthusiastic defender of censorship and Section 233 of the Multimedia Act 1998 so soon after coming to power”.
“When he was a young man running around in Bangsar for PKR, he was the nicest person around. Idealistic and always defending the less fortunate; the small guys … I never thought it possible for him … But then we all change, I suppose.”
Instead of gaining sympathy, majority of netizens took a pot shot at Zaid whose law firm Zaid Ibrahim Suflan TH Liew & Partners was appointed to handle the appeal of now incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak three weeks before it was heard by the Federal Court last year.
“Just admit that you’re afraid. As if you’ve never advised your clients to surrender their dummy phones (to MCMC). So don’t be a big liar here,” chided netizen @sultanoftasik with @BerniceWrites teased Zaid further: “A big businessman like you does not have a spare cheap phone?”
Netizen @DaHangMuda has this to tell Zaid: “You can always Xeet, it’s X now 😉! Just Xeet responsibly. Don’t PURGE all day long (break the rule). Lastly, come on, I’m sure you can afford to buy a new iPhone every day 😂”
@my_birthplace regarded Zaid’s intention to tweet less as “good news”. “Please don’t tweet anymore; it’s not that your tweets were sensible and neutral,” suggested the netizen while @rudelyawken relished the fact that “we will have PEACE? Wonderful and finally”.
Last but not least, netizen @kuizhar wanted to know how many times Zaid’s iPhone/s has been confiscated by the authorities while @pualdidan enquired if Zaid indeed has “a mirror in his house”. – Sept 26, 2023
