Netizens tickled pink by Najib’s “I’m using Jho Low to help Malaysia’s Finance,” comment

IT APPEARS the recent statement from Najib Razak about using Jho Low to help the finance of Malaysia has struck the funny bone of many Malaysian netizens.

Those who followed the twists and turns of the 1MDB money laundering case worth RM2.27 bil will find much entertainment from the court proceedings, although the truth is, it is no laughing matter.

To recap, the former prime minister explained at the High Court in Putrajaya why he relied on Jho Low to assist his special officer, Amhari Efendi Nazarudin, during a trip to China in June 2016.

Najib said he needed Jho Low’s help as he had a close relationship with the officers from China.

On to the netizens, a good majority of them were already in the comment section and highlighting the purported hypocrisy in every minute statement made by Najib.

Then there was plan and organize, who wondered why people donated jewelleries to the former prime minister when he could be fooled by a kid like Jho Low.

Where the 1MDB trial is concerned, we can expect the sarcasm level to ramp up in the online community, and we are not disappointed.

Sharman said the man was digging himself deeper and deeper with each passing day while Billi Bear wondered if he was asking Jho Low’s aid to sweep clean Malaysia’s finances.

On the other hand, Reedzuan Hashim claimed Najib was asking him to help with his personal finance.

Away from the mob, the latest development saw the former prime minister acknowledging that he had received a warning from the Chairman of The Edge Media Group, Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong, who informed him that Jho Low had misappropriated funds from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

When cross-examined, Najib agreed that Tong, who testified as the 43rd prosecution witness in his trial, had expressed concerns and suspicions about Jho Low during a meeting at Najib’s residence on 6 March 2015.

In earlier proceedings, Tong stated that during the meeting, he had recommended that Najib take action against Jho Low after US$700 mil belonging to 1MDB had been transferred to Good Star Ltd, a company owned by Jho Low. —Jan 3, 2025
