A VIDEO posted on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Facebook page showing the twice former premier behind the wheel accelerating an Audi Q5 SUV beyond 150km/h at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) accompanied by the SIC non-executive chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Azman Yahya might have impressed many of his hardcore fans.
But certainly not to detractors of the now opposition-slant prime minister of 22 years and 22 months who celebrated his 99th birthday on July 10.
“What is there to be surprised of? You can easily hit 150km/h by flooring the pedal of a MyVi,” teased one commenter to a Malaysiakini social media post of Dr Mahathir’s ala-Fast & Furious feat.
Hampir 100 tahun, Dr M masih boleh pecut lebih 150km/j https://t.co/6esT0A31WE

Another nastier commenter challenged adviser of the Perikatan Nasional (PN)-controlled State Government 4 (SG4) “to accelerate to 250km/h so the faster you can arrive at heaven” while sarcastically asking if “the Lebai (minor religious expert) has handed him the key”.
One commenter poked fun at Dr Mahathir that even though he was able to reach an enviable speed, “that doesn’t stop you from losing your deposit (in the contest for the Langkawi parliamentary seat during the 15th General Election)”.
“There’s nothing strange even if you want to drive 300km/h! That wouldn’t even lighten the burden of the people? Maybe returning the Japanese forced labour compensation money to the people will help. No? What say you?” chided another commenter.
Interestingly, one commenter who overzealously wanted to belittle Dr Mahathir by copying the Road Transport Department (RTD) and the police that “there’s an old man driving exceeding speed limit” got a taste of his own medicine when other netizens ticked hm off that the former was actually driving within confines of the Sepang Circuit.
Elsewhere, one netizen cautioned Dr Mahathir that “there’s no guarantee that one will enter heaven by driving at high speed” while another wanted the latter “to drive at the speed of sound and slowly disappear”.
To wrap up, one commenter pointed out that the world’s oldest PM “is still fast, furious and dangerous as ever”. – Sept 25, 2024
