Netizens want Muhyiddin not to behave like Najib with denials

PERIKATAN Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied any involvement in the awarding of the RM4 bil 1BestariNet tender to YTL Communications in 2011 while he was the education minister.

He stated that he did not personally benefit from the tender and noted that the decision was made by the then-finance minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The Pagoh MP also mentioned that it is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) prerogative to investigate the matter, but he was not involved in any wrongdoing.

“Wallahi, not a single cent did I take,” he said in response to questions on the probe.

Netizens are saying that Muhyiddin has taken a cue from Najib, who used the Islamic vows that he was not involved in the 1MDB scandal. Najib used the words Wallahi too to affirm that he was innocent.

Moreover, netizens added that Muhyiddin should have learnt that saying ‘wallahi’ does not guarantee his innocence, reminding the politician that Najib ended up in jail in the end.

A user asked why did Muhyiddin have to take the oath? No one asked him, they said.

Being sarcastic, a netizen said it is not Muhyiddin who should be held responsible for the crimes in Jana Wibawa or now, 1Bestari, because at that time, he was known as Mahiaddin instead.

Another user asked why Muhyiddin defended YTL before when Dr Maszlee Malikwas the education minister and wanted to terminate the 1Bestari contract.  – Sept 7, 2024
