WHETHER it’s feasting on traditional faves or on something fresh and unique with a local twist, Malaysians are always on the lookout for good grub.
An example of the latter was highlighted on Facebook forum KL Foodie which showcased a young entrepreneur operating out of a food truck serving what he termed the “nasi lemak wanpaku sandwich”.
Served with the usual nasi lemak condiments sans rice, it was packed into a mean looking sandwich. The other unique ingredient was the “ayam goncang” where pieces of varuval chicken was shaken in a pot with “secret” spices to give it extra kick.
There was also a traditional nasi lemak served with bite-sized version of the “ayam goncang”, priced at RM13 ala carte or RM21 with its pandan lemonade drink. The sandwich cost RM12 ala carte or RM20 paired with a drink.
Quite a few commended the young entrepreneur for trying to improvise.
One even made useful suggestions to help improve business, including the pricing.
Another suggested using mutton for his “goncang” recipe.
Meanwhile, one noted the cleanliness of the prep station.
Quite a few were ready to give this food truck a try.
As with any food endeavour, there will be those that are unimpressed, with quite a few lamenting the prices. Suffice to say, taste is subjective.
Given that it’s been said that Malaysians should support homegrown enterprises in light of the recent wave of boycotts of “Israel-friendly” brands, why not give this young man a chance?
Try it and see if it is worth the hype and price.
FocusM wishes this young entrepreneur the very best of luck. – Dec 13, 2024
