Due to the increasing demand in mobile gaming content and the potential of the gaming markets, Macpie Bhd – which engages in event management and communication products distribution businesses – aspires to capture a small fraction of the market.

Towards this end, Macpie has inked a head of agreement (HOA) on Feb 2 to acquire up to 35% in Techninier Sdn Bhd, to complement its vision and strengthen its digital and e-sports events business. The acquisition values Techninier at RM90 mil.

Techninier Sdn Bhd, a software and mobile game development company, is renowned in the Southeast Asian region for its social and mobile gaming network platforms.

It has an experienced team handling mobile and digital content as well as game design and deployment. Techninier has also established a platform for e-sports tournaments and e-athletes in collaboration with multiple government agencies.

“We foresee great synergy working with the team from Techninier to deploy online gaming events, digital conferences, mobile content creation and e-sports platform as it steers its business ventures around the COVID-19 pandemic to capture new audiences in the online marketplace,” Macpie said in a statement.

Recently, Macpie – which was formerly Sterling Progress Bhd – has launched XOX Bhd’s PUBG Unity League tournament which is currently running in the Borneo region, after having completed the northern, southern and central regions respectively.

Other than building e-sports and mobile gaming platforms, Techninier’s software team also assist state municipal councils in digitising their assets.

One example is its deployment of applications like iPeople for Sarawak to link local authorities in the state to its people via a mobile application that helps track complaints, events and directory listings. – Feb 3, 2021
