New blood to drive Celcom to greater heights

IN line with the strategy to strengthen growth by accelerating its transformation into becoming an inspirational digital organisation, Celcom Axiata Bhd today announced several key senior management appointments within the company.

Coming on board on Feb 1, will helm the chief corporate and transformation officer position.

“He will provide leadership to the various corporate functions including legal, regulatory, societal development, sustainability, enterprise data governance and program management,” the telco pointed out in a statement.

Kamal brings with him over 25 years of managerial experience having previously served as the group managing director for Media Prima Bh until March 31 last year.

Prior to joining Media Prima in 2009, he was the head of communications for the Prime Minister.

Kamal began his career in Bumiputra Merchant Bankers and then worked in various companies involved in technology and venture financing before joining the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now Bursa Malaysia) in July 1998.

Meanwhile, Pravind Menon was appointed as head of risk and compliance on Jan 4. Pravind brings with him with over 20 years of experience in legal, ethics and compliance across various industries in Asia-Pacific covering pharmaceutical, energy and fast-moving consumer goods industries.

Earlier in 2020, Celcom – the country’s first and largest private mobile network operator – strengthened its management team with new appointments for its technology and commercial divisions.

Afizulazha Abdullah was appointed as the telco’s chief operating officer (technology) to provide overall leadership across the various technology functions while Allan Bonke was appointed as chief commercial officer to lead all revenue generating units with focus on strengthening Celcom’s value proposition and competitiveness in the market.

Commenting on the key appointments, Celcom’s CEO Idham Nawawi said the announcement reflects Celcom’s continuous determination to bring the best talent locally and internationally, driving towards becoming a high-performing digital company that focuses on building a sustainable revenue and market share growth, while keeping the needs of the people close to heart.
