New COVID-19 cases continue to decrease, coming in at 6,623 on Monday

THINGS seem to be looking up for Malaysians as the festive season draws near with new daily COVID-19 cases showing positive signs of a decline, standing at 6,623 cases on Monday (April 18) including 13 imported cases.

This brings the country’s total number of cases to 4,393,377 since the pandemic began.

The number of COVID-19 deaths, however, is a bit more stagnant with 12 casualties reported within the last 24 hours. A majority of that number (eight) were brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 35,421.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 11,233 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to a total of 4,249,704 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak started.

The number of hospital beds being used around the country has reached 59%, with the intensive care units (ICUs) at 53.8% capacity.

Currently, 126 people are being treated in ICUs with most of them (76) in need of ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country is still on a downward trend, standing at 103,900 with 97.5% of them (101,294) being subjected to home quarantine. – April 18, 2022
