New COVID-19 cases facing an increase post-Raya celebrations

THE number of new COVID-19 cases continues to be in an upward trend, standing at 3,029 on Saturday morning, bringing the country’s total number of cases to 4,473,500 since the pandemic began.

The number of COVID-19 deaths, however, is still low with only five casualties reported within the last 24 hours, one of which were brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 35,607.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 1,116 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to a total of 4,409,159 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak started.

The number of hospital beds being used around the country have increased significantly compared to last week (64.8%), with the intensive care units (ICUs) at 55.3% capacity.

Currently, 42 people are being treated in ICUs with a majority of them (33) in need of ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country started to increase again, standing at 28,734 with 95.2% of them (27,358) being subjected to home quarantine. – May 14, 2022
