New COVID-19 cases in Malaysia inches toward the 10,000 mark

MALAYSIA has been blessed with significant decreases in the number of daily new COVID-19 cases, despite the fact that the Government has reopened the country’s borders since April 1.

As of April 4 (Monday), the number stands at 12,380, which includes 462 imported cases.

This now brings the country’s total to 4,246,467 since the pandemic began.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 20,635 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to a total of 4,018,421 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak started.

The nation’s hospitalisation rate is also seeing a steady decline compared to last week, coming down to 57.4% utilisation, with the intensive care units (ICUs) at 55.3% capacity.

Currently, 253 people are being treated in ICUs with a majority of them (157) in need of ventilator support.

The number of fatalities, however, remains somewhat stagnant at 30 deaths with 11 patients brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 35,099.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country now stands at 192,947, with 97.7% of them (188,534) are being subjected to home quarantine. – April 4, 2022
