New COVID-19 cases reaching close to the 21,000 mark nationwide

THE people of Malaysia are starting to worry if history will repeat itself as the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to increase since last week, reaching up to 20,939.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases detected nationwide since the pandemic started at 2,996,361.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 5,807 patients have recovered within the last 24 hours, marking a total of 2,841,271 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

However, 155 people are still being treated in ICUs with 80 of them in need of ventilator support.

There was also a drastically high number of fatalities recorded, standing at 24 patients, with  nine of them brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 32,099.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country is now at 122,991, with 90.5% of them (111,323) are being subjected to home quarantine. – Feb 8, 2022
