AS many have feared, even with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place, the number of new COVID-19 cases throughout the country shot up following the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Standing at 7,234 new cases as of Saturday (Feb 5) morning, the 234 of those are imported cases, with 12 new clusters identified.
The total number of COVID-19 cases detected nationwide since the pandemic started now stands at 2,895,014.
According to health-director general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, only 1% of the total number of new cases are in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website shows that 5,254 patients have recovered within the last 24 hours, with a total of 2,799,608 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak began.
However, 118 people are still being treated in ICUs with 57 of them in need of ventilator support.
There were also 11 fatalities recorded four patients brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 32,011.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country is now at 63,395, with 88% of them (55,759) are being subjected to home quarantine. – Feb 5, 2022
