New deputy governor and assistant governor for Bank Negara

MARZUNISHAM Omar, who had served at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will be a Bank Negara Malaysia deputy governor for a three-year term from Monday .

Another appointment is that of Dr Norhana Endut as assistant governor responsible for the economics, monetary policy, data management, statistics and international departments.

The central bank said Marzunisham will oversee corporate management, which includes currency and finance, digital and technology, human capital and corporate services. He will also be in charge of the financial intelligence and enforcement department.

He will be a member of the bank’s board of directors and continue to serve on various committees of the bank. These include the management, monetary policy, financial stability, reserve management and risk management committees. He will also chair the National Coordination Committee to Counter Money Laundering (NCC).

Marzunisham joined Bank Negara in 1993 and has a master’s and bachelor’s degrees in economics from the University of Cambridge, UK. He has 27 years of experience across various functions of central banking such as economic and monetary policy, financial sector regulation and development, financial inclusion and organisational development.

At the IMF from 2015 to 2017, he was executive director of the Southeast Asia Voting Group Constituency.

Dr Norhana, who had served in the economics and monetary policy departments, has a PhD and a master’s in economics from Washington University St Louis in the US as well as a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Warwick, UK. – June 12, 2020
