New political party lends helping hand to Selangor flood victims

WHETHER this is a publicity stunt or truly from the heart, recently formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) could not have found a more opportune time than the aftermath of last weekend’s flash flood to make its presence felt in Peninsular Malaysia.

In the spirit of “Bangsa Malaysia” (the Malaysian race), the very much Sarawak-based party has mobilised more than 150 volunteers to help flood victims in Selangor to clean their homes.

Officially launched today, the two-day clean-up programme called “Misi Pasca Banjir” (post floods mission) encompasses homes in Klang, Kapar, Hulu Langat, Shah Alam, Kota Raja and Puchong.

The volunteers who are divided into several groups are equipped with all the relevant cleaning materials to help residents with their home clean-up before moving back in.

“We will travel in 4WD vehicles as several areas are still slightly flooded and will help residents in every way we can,” shared a group leader. “After keeping ourselves occupied by handing out aid to those in need over the past two days, we shall now assist them with cleaning up work.”

Formerly known as Sarawak Workers Party, PBM held an extraordinary general meeting on Nov 14 where a new line-up of leaders was elected. This came soon after the party’s new constitution was approved by the Registrar of Societies.

PBM’s president is Mohamad Sukri Yusri with Julau MP Larry Sng as deputy president and Tebrau MP Steven Choong as senior vice-president. – Dec 24, 2021
