THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for allegedly offering government-linked company (GLC) jobs in exchange for political support has been classified as “no further action” (NFA).
According to the written parliamentary reply to Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that the MACC has completed its investigations against Muhyiddin.
“MACC found that there was no element of wrongdoing under the MACC Act,” he said.
Previously Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said that MACC and the attorney-general must investigate a leaked recording of a Bersatu party leader claiming that rival lawmakers could be enticed with Government and GLC posts.
In the unverified audio recording – purportedly from the Bersatu supreme council meeting on Feb 23, 2020 – a man whose voice resembled that of Bersatu president Muhyiddin was heard saying that UMNO MPs can be enticed to join Bersatu if they are offered ministerships or GLC posts.
“If they know a new government is being formed, with UMNO in, ‘Why don’t you (UMNO MPs) join in now, why don’t you join us now, rather than you join later?’
“I think if we did that, a majority will leave UMNO (with just) 10-20 (MPs), with just Najib (Abdul Razak) and his people (left behind) … especially if there are positions. If not a minister, then chairperson of a GLC,” the man in the recording said.
A source who was present at the meeting in question had verified that the audio recording was authentic. – March 2, 2022
