NGO to ex-IGP: Learn your lesson, stop spreading lies against DAP

THE Malaysian Indian Voice (MIV) urged all quarters to stop spreading falsehood against DAP and its leaders, following the court settlement between former Inspector-General of Police Tun Hanif Omar and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

“This is an important event as there are several political parties, non-Governmental organisations (NGO) and individuals who are trying to divide Malaysians, using the race and religion cards.

“Therefore, Hanif’s apology is very appropriate as people like him keep spreading misinformation against DAP and its leaders,” its chairman V Pappa Raidu said, in a statement.

Yesterday, Hanif apologised in open court to settle a defamations suit levelled against him by Lim.

Malay daily, Sinar Harian also agreed to publish a written apology to the Iskandar Puteri MP for carrying Hanif’s statements, in two articles published back in September 2018.

The suit was filed following the former top cop’s accusation during Konvesyen Keramah Bangsa held at the Universiti Teknology Mara on Sept 6, 2018. Hanif was reported to have said that Lim was arrested in 1969 for allegedly calling for Malaysia to be divided along racial lines.

On that note, Lim also expressed regret in the court to settle a counter-suit filed by Hanif over statements published on the former’s blog, Twitter and Rocketkini against the ex-IGP.

Be a good role model, Hanif

Touching on the matter, Pappa Raidu said that Hanif should do more to restore Lim’s image among the public, which was dented due to the lies said at the convention back in 2018.

“He should tender an apology to all Malaysians. With UiTM alumni holding top positions in the public service, Hanif’s statement had caused the DAP leader’s standing to be affected significantly.

“Therefore, the former top cop should do more to help restore Lim and DAP’s image among the public,” he stressed.

On the DAP, Pappa Raidu said that everyone knows that it is a multi-racial party, championing the “Malaysian-Malaysia” concept since its inception.

“Given his past illustrious career, I urge Hanif to be a role model to our younger generation instead of spreading ‘poison’ among multi-ethnic Malaysia,” he concluded. – Sept 21, 2021.
