Nizar Najib: “Don’t pick a people’s rep who will ask for donations to cover their ADUN expenses”

AN UMNO leader has warned voters against choosing a people’s representative who had to ask for donations from the public to cover their expenses as a member of the state legislative assembly (ADUN).

Addressing a crowd in Simpang Pelangai ahead of the Pelangai by-election this weekend, Peramu Jaya assemblyman Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib expressed his concerns that opposition assemblymen would cite not having an allocation in the constituency as an excuse to get out of helping their constituents.

“I’m worried they will ask voters to buy them an office, buy aircons and fans which has happened elsewhere. I hope Pelangai voters will be smart and vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Amizal Abu Adam this Saturday,” he was reported as saying by Utusan Malaysia at the Ceramah Mega Perpaduan Madani last night (Oct 2).

Nizar, who is also the Pahang investment, industries, science, technology and innovation committee chairman, said he is touched by the people of Pelangai who asked about his father, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is currently serving his 12-year jail sentence.

“Many people asked, how is Datuk Seri (Najib), is he healthy? Still strong? Alhamdulillah he is still strong, still energetic, still able to smile despite being behind bars. He sends his regards to his comrades,” he told the crowd.

Meanwhile, Nizar said he hopes the government will defend Najib as he believed that his father had been wrongly persecuted by the country’s judicial system.

“But we have been taught to be loyal to the party, and we will continue to fight for UMNO and BN. I hope the leadership will not disappoint my father and will give him a proper defence.” – Oct 3, 2023
