DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government will not compromise if there are criminal elements in the death of army personnel, Private Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi.
Amirul is believed to have been beaten by a corporal last month. According to Zahid, the government viewed the matter seriously and is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that such incidents do not recur in the future.
“Disciplinary action cannot be taken arbitrarily, especially when it involves physical abuse,” he said.
“All parties must comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) that have been set and not use methods outside the existing guidelines,” Zahid added.
To recap, the violent incident at a military camp in Bentong on March 30 ended in tragedy with the death of 24-year-old soldier Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi.
He passed away on April 11 at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Temerloh, after nearly two weeks in a coma due to severe injuries sustained in an alleged assault by a corporal.
Six other soldiers were also injured in the incident at the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment camp.
The suspect, a 37-year-old corporal, was arrested and initially charged with causing grievous hurt and multiple counts of injury but pleaded not guilty.
Following the victim’s death, the case was reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Muhammad Amirul was described by his family as a responsible, quiet and caring individual. His passing has left them deeply grieving.
Funeral prayers were held in Gemas before he was laid to rest at Felda Sungai Kelamah Cemetery.
His father, Rosafindi Tambi Chik, 49, said, “All fathers love their children. I have accepted his passing and leave everything to Allah, but what has happened is still very difficult for me to bear.”
Rosafindi described his late son as a quiet, reserved person who seldom spoke about himself.
But as a former soldier, he understood the challenges faced by new members in performing their duties. —Apr 12, 2026
