“No double standards please”: Fahmi Reza seeks clearance to travel abroad

WITH satirist Fahmi Raza being summoned again by Bukit Aman for his tongue-in-cheek artwork, he took to social media to inform the public that he had been barred from travelling abroad.

“Update: Aku dah kena blacklist dan dilarang ke luar negara. #SatireIsNotACrime.”

(Update: I have been blacklisted and barred from travelling abroad)

Fahmi elaborated that he only found out about it yesterday, alleging that the Immigration Department had acted upon Bukit Aman’s request.

“But I am scheduled to attend a theatre performance in Europe next month. So, I’m trying to get Bukit Aman to give me clearance to travel, which is due after Hari Raya.

“If a convicted felon and another person facing 42 corruption charges in court can be allowed to travel abroad, I hope Bukit Aman can give me clearance too. No double standards please,” he stated.

In support of Fahmi’s argument, user Hazlan al-Miamiyyi said:

(Strange that convicted felons and those under trial for corruption can travel easily abroad. Double standards galore)

Echoing Hazlan’s sentiments, user Stanley Elvin added:

(What about those corrupt and convicted felon who can still travel abroad? Double standards indeed)

Netizen Nasrul Syahmo jested:

(Next time if you want to take on powerful people, learn to cheat as much as you can and become a minister. Only then you will get treated better)

Netizens were referring to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who give the green light to travel abroad in the past despite their court cases.

Don’t insult our Sultans

Yesterday, Fahmi was summoned by Bukit Aman for the second time this month, but did not mention details.

Earlier this month, the satirist was called for questioning for publishing a satirical cartoon showing Mojo Jojo (a villain in cartoon, Powerpuff Girls) donning royal regalia.

However, several netizens lashed out at Fahmi for his insolence against the monarchy for posting the satirical image.

(Who told you to insult the royalty? Keep your insults towards politicians alone. You asked for it)

Netizen Aiman Aidi remarked:

(I’m sorry but despite being your supporter but when it comes to our monarchs, the protectors of Malay special privileges, I don’t think you should have done that) – April 23, 2022
